Pay
Attention to Your Attention
Sometimes
we read about an idea or go to a seminar, and think - I need to
do that! But once you put the book down or leave the seminar,
it's easy to fall back into old habits. It's natural! Keep yourself
fresh and stay present to your life by remembering the fundamental
tool we all have for making changes in ourselves and in our lives
- our attention. Pay attention to your attention.
If you are not putting it where you want it to be, then
someone, some circumstance and/or habit will do it for you.
How aware
are you that your attention gets pulled quickly and automatically
to things not of your conscious choosing?
These unconscious
choices needn't be a problem, as long as you know and
have chosen to let your unconscious make those kinds of choices
for you. For most of us, though, these choices are not only unconscious,
but unexamined. They're not really choices, because we never consciously
decided to pass that task over to our unconscious. Not
surprisinglyly, these "choices" then serve our defenses
rather than serve our true self.
So, throughout
the day ask yourself - very simply - is my attention on what I
want to create in my life? Or is it on what I don't want
to be happening? Am I putting my attention where I want it to
go, or is it going into old habitual routes?
Give your
attention and energy to what you do want, not to what
you don't want.
